Tour De Fat - Fat Tire Beer

Like the ageless delight of pedaling a bicycle, Fat Tire Amber Ale’s
appeal is in its feat of balance: Toasty malt flavors (sorta like
biscuits just pulled from the oven) coasting in equilibrium with crisp
hoppiness. Delicious stability - in the world of sometimes-precarious beer flavors – is perhaps what prompted one consumer who wrote us to say, “this beer just makes you smile"

So if you've attended this year's Fat Tire Beer Charity Fundraising Beer Bust, or have enjoyed Fat Tire Beer's quality product. Please send a thanks out to Brew Meister Jamie Mastin and the Fat Tire Beer Team for their continued support towards charity bike rides and for their product sponsorship by attending today's "Tour De Fat" in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA.

Christmas as part of your daily routine

At 5:30am, as I cycled off to teach my 7:00am yoga class, I thought . . . "when does the world give?" And immediately, I thought .... Christmas.

1. Christmas
"A celebration of humanity dating back thousands of years. It originated as a pagan celebration of the birth of the Sun, as it was celebrated on the winter equinox, and after that point, days got longer. When the Catholics/ Christians took over these pagan peoples, they replaced their holiday with their own Birth of the Son, (as in of God) to make the transition to Christianity's traditions easier. The idea of Santa Claus and his reindeer was created in the 1800s, and is loosely based on St. Nicholas, who gave random presents to people. The idea of a christmas tree dates back to German celebrations of Christmas thousands of years ago. They used an evergreen tree to symbolize life and hope in dark times, and hung apples on it. In modern times, it has again lost its religious meaning and is now used as a time of secular "joy." People spend the time with their family or friends and exchange gifts, a tradition from the Birth of Jesus.

2. Christmas
"A holiday that originally was supposed to be for the birth of Christ, but after all these years, its just nothing but commercials, sales, and stress. What does a fat guy who hauls gifts down into your lifing room, and then flies away on a sleigh have to do with Jesus Christ? Jack squat."

3.Christmas
"A heart touching season where gift giving is promoted, and Santa Claus is every youth's hero. Other Christmas icons include: reindeer, snowmen, elves, presents, pine trees, ornaments, tinsel, holy, yule logs, sleighs, mistletoe, carols, noel, angels, golden rings, calling birds, french hens, turtledoves, birds in fruit-bearing trees."

Regardless of one's thoughts on Christmas. Christmas is a day of "gift giving"....Yet, does that mean that we should only partake in "gift giving" on Christmas? No .. Instead, I would like to propose that we incorporate the act of "gift giving" as part of one's daily routine.

So today, walk the streets as if it's Xmas. And, do something for someone ....

1. Buy a stranger a cup of coffee
2. Pump the gas for the person in front of you
3. Call your mother and tell her thank you,
4. Instead of going out to dinner, donate the funds to charity . . .
5. Go clean your neightbor's kitchen ....
7. Give the babysitter "the day off paid."
8. Ask your mailman his name.

Think about it!

Tony Eason speaks to Oprah Winfrey - The Oprah Winfrey Show & Tim Bennett - Interview #8

The following interviews are the opinions of individuals in the San Francisco AIDS/LifeCycle Community. No harm of any kind is intended. . . . And each individual's statements are truly their own ....

Age: 42

1.) What do you think is the world's greatest asset?
Humility (amanitva)

2.) If you could make one wish for humanity what would it be?
Humility (amanitva) is the beginning of knowledge ..without it one does not have the opportunity to learn ..therefore, I would wish that the world would practice humility.

3.) How has the AIDS/HIV Panademic affected you?
In 1984, at the age of 22, I moved to San Francisco. During this time period, I could often be found in "The Trocadero," "The End Up," "Buzzby's, "DV8," and various other night clubs. San Francisco's night club scene was "off the hook." Everyone was having a good time. Yet, as the years past, I noticed that my Disco friends were slowly missing. And when I asked others about them, ...the common response was ..."they're dead." And now, at the age of 42, most of my friends are no longer here. Most have died of HIV/AIDS, or complications of the AIDS pandemic.

So, I had the choice of either
1.) To sit and watch
2.) Do something about it

At first, I sat and watched. And then, I put down the bottle of Robert Mondavi Chardonnay. And, decided to do my part for humanity. I registered, participated, and completed a 585 mile bike ride from San Francisco to West Hollywood titled: California AIDS Ride #2 sponsored by Tanqueray.

4.) How many years have you participated in the San Francisco AIDS Walk?
I have yet to participated in the San Francisco AIDS Walk. However, I support anyone who is contributing to relieving the suffering of others

5.) Have you participated in any other AIDS related charity events? (If so, what? And, how many?)
I have participated in 9 AIDS Charity Cycling Events

The San Francisco AIDS Ride -1994
California AIDS Ride #2 - 1995
California AIDS Ride #6 - 1999
California AIDS Ride #7 - 2000
California AIDS Ride #8 - 2001
California AIDs Ride #9 - 2002
AIDS/LifeCycle #2 - 2003
AIDS/LifeCycle #3 - 2004
AIDS/LifeCycle #4 - 2005

And, I will participate in AIDS/LifeCycle #5

6.) If you had one thing to say to the world, what would it be?
World History is a reflection of the actions, thoughts, and words, of human beings.

7.) If you had one thing to say to Oprah Winfrey, what would it be?
Like you, I had a very strict upbringing. At the age of 10, I was convinced, I would never amount to anything significant. At 16, I moved out of my parents house. At the age of 20, I realized my sexuality and therefore, I was abandonned by my long term, childhood friends. At 22, I moved to San Francisco, CA. to begin a new life. And for the next 10 years, I used drugs to relieve my suffering.

And then, . . . ...... .. . a light bulb went ON!

On 01 January 1994, I realized that there was more to life than: guzzling an expensive bottle of Robert Mondavi Chardonnay, being the belle of the ball, speaking of what others need to work on, and/or sitting daily on the same coach (in self pity). So, I bought a 10 year old, Bianchi Road Bike. And, I began a 6-month intense cycling training for a cycling event called the California AIDS Ride #2.

In May of 1994, I left San Francisco with $3.00 in my pocket, no idea of how I was going to return, a questionable bike, the fear of failure, and began to cycle (along with 1500 other cyclist) toward West Hollywood.

Seven days, 575 miles later, I arrived in West Hollywood. At which point, I realized it is possible to step outside of your normal routine. I realized it is possible to empower yourself while assisting others. I realized that I wasn’t alone in my ideas of creating a better world. And, I realized that miracles could occur . . (after all, I made it back home with $3.00 in my pocket) .

Each person will have a different starting point. Each person will learn according to his or her individual capacity at any given time. Each individual progresses in different ways, at different rhythms. Each step will bring new experiences. And each person has the opportunity to discover and fulfill their individual destiny.

In June 2006, for my 9th Year, I will participate in an event to benefit the S.F. AIDS Foundation called AIDS/LifeCycle #5. Each year, I cycle 575 miles (from San Francisco to Los Angeles). And each year, I complete the ride knowing I did the right thing.

Why do I continue to participate:
1. Supportting the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, and it's beneficiaries is a great cause.

2. "African Americans account for more than one-third of the cases reported since the beginning of the epidemic and half of all diagnoses in 2003. African American women between the ages of 25 and 44 are 13 times more likely to die of the disease than their counterparts. According to CDC data reported through December of 2001, African Americans were the largest group of young people affected by HIV, and accounted for 56 percent of all HIV infections ever reported among those aged 13-24."

3. Participating in the California AIDS Ride & AIDS/LifeCycle changed my life. .. (I went from a bottle of Chardonnay a day to Iyengar Yoga at 7:00am.).

4. It gives me the opportunity to empower others (by my example).

5. At the age of 42, I stare out the window and smile.

"Through the power of media, Oprah Winfrey has created an unparalleled connection with people around the world. As supervising producer and host of the top-rated, award-winning The Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah Winfrey has entertained, enlightened and uplifted millions of viewers for the past two decades. Oprah Winfrey's accomplishments as a television pioneer, producer, publisher, educator and philanthropist have established Oprah Winfrey as one of the most respected and admired public figures today. "

Similar to Tracy Chapman's involvement with AIDS/Life Cycle #3 - 2004, and MTV's involvement with AIDS/LifeCycle #4, the acknowledgement and presence of Oprah Winfrey in AIDS/LifeCycle #5 - 2006 would provide indescribable benefits for the success of the AIDS/LifeCycle Event, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, AIDS Awareness, AIDS Education, AIDS Services, and AIDS Research, throughout the world.

San Francisco AIDS Walk 2005

Okay, so it's 9:00am on Sunday, 17 July 2005. And, I'm heading out to record the experiences, stories, and views of the 25,000 participants in the 19 Annual San Francisco AIDS Walk. I'll be back with the results.

AIDS Walk San Francisco 2005 AIDS Walk San Francisco 2005 raised over $3.6 million in support of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and other Bay Area AIDS service organizations.

Since 1987, AIDS Walk San Francisco has attracted the participation of more than 325,000 people, raising over $53 million for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and other Bay Area service organizations.

The following interviews are the opinions of individuals in the San Francisco Bay Area Community. No harm of any kind is intended. . . . And each individual's statements are truly their own ....

Love to you all, iyengar yoga teacher, tony eason

"Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it" - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"Michelangelo was walking down the street with his friend one day. As they passed a rock on the side of the road, the friend playfully kicked it. 'Why did you kick that ?!!' Michelangelo inquired, quite incensed. 'What's the big deal?' his friend replied. 'It's just a rock.' 'No,' Michelangelo said. 'It's an angel.' Several months later, Michelangelo invited his friend to his studio where he unveiled his newest sculpture. It was a beautifully carved angel. When his friend marveled at it, Michelangelo said, 'You see, I told you it wasn't a rock.'" - "Bringing the Story Home" by Lisa Lipkin

In 1994, I needed "something to tell the grandchildren." So, I signed up to do a bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. And although many a people laughed, I completed the 7 day, 585 mile, journey. And since then, in support of the fight against the AIDS pandemic, I have completed a total of 8 cycling journeys to Los Angeles.

In 1996, I had an idea of cycling the "South of France." And although many a people laughed, I completed a solo bicycle tour in France. This tour covered Troyes, Chanttillon, Dijon, Dole, Besancon, Nimes, Montpellier, Beziers, Carcassonne, Toulouse, Montauban, Cahor, Brive, and Limoges, France.

In the year 2000, I enrolled in a 2yr. Advanced Yoga Teacher Training Program at the Iyengar Yoga Institue of San Francisco. And although many a people laughed, I completed the two years of training. And since then, I have become a seasoned student of Yoga and an Iyengar Yoga teacher.

And now, I have choosen to reach out to Oprah Winfrey. So, I created the Oprah Winfrey Wish List. And although many a people laugh, one person is standing beside me ...her name is Shiv.

Oprah Winfrey

Lance Armstrong

Shiv and I may be crazy ...but, we will flock together. Shiv is reaching out to Lance Armstrong. I am reaching out to Oprah Winfrey. We've termed it the "Mission in the Mission." And although many a people laugh, we continue with the journey. ....

So, as you go through your daily life, don't laugh at the dreams of others because, it's from the seed of a dream that beautiful gardens grow (smile).

Someone once said that a genius is someone who sees what everyone else sees but thinks what nobody else thinks . . .

"Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round heads in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. You can quote them. Disagree with them. Glorify or vilify them. But the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."

What do you think is the world's greatest asset?

A backyard with a row of okra, squash, mustard greens, kale, beets, and a watermelon patch in the shade. . . .

If you could make one wish for humanity what would it be?

My wish is . . ...that every family would have "cromag" rims, a titanium Nordic Track, and enough gasoline to feed the children.

How has the AIDS/HIV Pandemic affected you?

It effects me because, it effects my brother man ............ Once upon a time, I was in the loonybin. I was in line to receive my daily medication. And, I was with a fellow patient, my good friend Tim.

Tim was aware of his HIV Status. Tim had AIDS. He was in line to receive the results of his blood test. The test results showed his T-cell count had dropped significantly below normal. At that moment, I witnessed him crumble.

Because of our "suicidal intent," Tim and I were admitted to the loonybin. Tim failed to "off himself" because he really wanted to live. Tim had contracted AIDS years before, but when so few cells were left in his body to allow him to fight, when he faced death without a choice, then .. .I realized how important an answer is needed to cure HIV/Aids.

Globally, an estimated 20 million women, men, and childrens have died of aids ...80,000 have been Californians ...18,000 have been San Franciscians . . These are not just numbers ...these are our neighbors ..our families ..our friends ...

Spill Kincaid & Tony Eason wish .."the best of all possible worlds," ....yesterday, today, and tomorrow. . . . . .ciao,

"Life is not all peaches and cream"

Saturday, July 02, 2005, I spoke of walking a new path and seeing what it brings ....And ...so I did.

On Sunday, July 03, 2005:
Instead of rising at 5:30am ..I stood from my bed at 9:00am.
Instead of having coffee for breakfast ....I shared waffles and potatoes with Shiv
Instead of going on a Sunday morning bike ride ...I planted tomatoes on the roof top.
Instead of rushing to get things done (although I had nothing to do) ....I rested on the couch and wondered "where do I go from here?"

It is not uncommon for cyclist to suffer post-event depression after finishing the AIDS Life Cycle Event. This is due in part to achieving a goal which took much time and energy to reach. Now that the goal has been accomplished, cyclist oftentimes feel a void in their lives. Cycling authorities suggest considering the following strategies to deal with reduced motivation and/or burnout:

1. Cycle simply for fun, not worrying about following a training schedule;
2. Supplement your cycling by participating in cross-training activities like Iyengar Yoga;
3. Take a break altogether from cycling;
4. Spend more time with family and friends and enjoy some social activities or non-athletic hobbies .... . .. .
5. Setting new goals

iyengar yoga teacher, tony eason

So now, with no ride to do ... I will begin a new journey.

Within the next weeks, I plan to visit various AIDS organizations which are funded (or receive funds) from the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.. And, as I meet people, I will listen and record their stories, views, challenges, and accomplishments . . .in the hopes that more individuals will understand that life is not all "peaches and cream."

Today, almost 22 million men, women and children worldwide have died of AIDS, and an estimated 40 million people are living with HIV. AIDS impacts people of all ethnicities, genders and sexual orientations.

I'll keep you posted.

Love to you all,

"No one can jump on your back unless it's bent..."

Once upon a time there was a man. And everyday, he walked down the same street. And each time he walked, he walked down the same side of the street at the same time of the day. And, he walked to the same place.

During his daily walks, he was consistantly confronted by a large hole in the sidewalk. And each day, he would walk down the street and fall into the hole. Then, one day, he climbed out of the hole and wondered: "why is it that I continuiously follow the same path, and fall into the same hole?"

So the next day, he walked down the street, saw the hole, and walked around the hole. The following day, he walked down the opposite side of the street. Days later, he realized that he could walk another path and reach his destiny.

Today, I will walk down a different path and see what it brings. ......

As Lance Armstrong has stated, "It's not about the bike ...it's about the journey."

I'll keep you posted,
